Does anyone know if Gaston Leroux actually berkata the phantom existed on his deathbed?

I've seen this rumor floating around several threads and I was wondering if anyone has any substantial knowledge to back this up atau if someone could link me to lebih info. I'm Penulisan a paper on this and any help would be greatly appreciated. I've looked around but I really can't find any information on it.

I've heard this rumor too, but I don't think there's anything to substantiate it. If Leroux possibly did base Erik on someone it most likely wouldn't be all of his characteristics. Like it could have been someone he knew atau knew of that was very talented and maybe somewhat eccentric, atau he could have combined two people like Joseph Marick aka the gajah man and the aforementioned example.
