We hoped this day would never come! ‘The Vampire Diaries’ returns from winter hiatus on Jan. 22, and the anticipation has been slowly eating away at our souls. Thankfully, star Paul Wesley has some scoop on what we can expect!

wrapping up for good? Don’t worry, it isn’t, but ahead of the series return on Jan. 22, Paul Wesley, who of course plays Stefan, revealed how he’d like to see the series end. Spoiler alert, what he said might break your heart!

‘The Vampire Diaries\': Paul Wesley Wants Stefan Dead

is finally returning from winter hiatus, and we could not be more excited. Prior to the premiere, Paul sat down with 

to reveal some surprising insight on the show and his wishes for Stefan.

‘The Vampire Diaries\': A Stelena Reunion Isn’t ‘Out Of The Question’

Though it’s not leaving us anytime soon (phew!), when asked how he’d like to see the series end, “I think Elena (Nina Dobrev) should go back to being human, if that’s at all humanly [possible],” Paul said. “I think Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan, to be honest with you, I think they’ve had a long run. I think that maybe when the show ends, they should sort of end as well. I don’t mean to be morbid, but they’ve been around for 160 years – I think they’ve had their fun. I think that would be a really poetic ending to the story.”

Being poetic is overrated — you can’t die, Stefan!

Paul of course, is directing the episode that airs on Jan. 22, and he had the chance to reflect on that — it was his second time 

“I found myself to be a lot more relaxed and a lot more confident about it,” he said. “For obvious reasons, because I had done it once before, but also because I got a little lucky this episode. I had no location shots, so I didn’t have to worry about daylight, I didn’t have to worry about weather … it was technically an easier shoot, and I was in love with the script. It was amazing, and I just got really fortunate. I was also working with a new director of photography – they’re both amazing – and I just realized, you know, a lot of directing is trusting your DP, and the experience really helped me.”

“I think a lot of it is because directing is such a … you have to rely so heavily on the actors, and so, your episode is going to suck unless the actors really nail their performances and so I found myself really having to connect with the actors and understand where they’re coming from and really emotionally connect with them, and people respond to that,” he said.

So fed up with both shows and I have stopped watching both for quite sometime now. I just feel that the writing has gone too centered (elena) and its all over the place. I noticed before that the shows had precision on what they want from their audience and their characters ofcourse. They will be twist and that makes up bite our nails and want the next week to come super soon… But now…. Right…. So I’ll be like okay. Move on. But its my opinion.

If you don’t like the shows go somewhere else and watch a different network I love these shows the originals and the TVD are ongoing series

In my opinion from the originals that baby is going to something huge for everyone when she gets older I think she is the answer to everything. I believe hope is a key to something major for originals and tvd.

WTH!!!!! No dying i don’t want to see Stefan or Damon dying. Happening ending would be better. I would like to see Caroline and Stefan together. I would prefer happy endings Paul.

If you don’t like the show don’t brother watching it on tv you are getting Paul and ian upset they need fans to keep on watching tvd

Well glad he isn’t a writer on the show because I would hate that ending. I want to see them happy when it ends.

Lets get real this show WAS at the top of its game and a fan favorite before it became the Dullena Diaries. Unfortunately Caroline Dries and Julie Plec has ruined this show with their creepy crush on Ian. I mean every single episode is always about damon or the cast members having to praise Damon or praise Dullena. The talented actors on this show have seen their scenes become smaller and smaller because they (Julie/caroline/Kevin) want Ian and only Ian to shine. What they didn’t understand is now people have just stopped watching because of Dullena. I know I won’t be watching tonight because I’m fed up with dullena/deman and the BS. I used to be a huge fan of TVD’s and made sure I had nothing planned every Thursday at 8. Now I’m like a lot of former fans. I’ve given up on this show. Ratings proved it too. Here’s hoping the cw has a new show to replace it soon.

Disagree with you. Most viewers love Damon and Elena. The fact is the writing is just bad. They have added too many new characters that no one gives a damn about. Same thing is happening on The Originals. If they don’t focus on the core characters then next season will be their last regardless of whether they want it it or not.

I completely agree with you. I used to love this show and Stelena’s romance. Now, Delena has consumed the show and has sent it spiralling. I hope the show ends with Stelena as endgame.

Mark pedowitz has plans for TVD to go further and beyond and we don’t know how long mark is the VP and he tells the producer if they’re show is renewed or not and how many episodes they wilt for their show

TVD will never end they’re planning to go beyond just like supernatural I love tvd if that show end I am done watching it oh by the way if tvd goes The Originals will also go too

if Paul thinks Elena should become human then they should find something to make them all human so they can live out humans lives and eventually die old with the person they love. Maybe find something to end all to get rid of vampires and witches and werewolves by turning them all human. I hope that the series will go one for a little longer so this idea Paul has won’t come so close to happening, I love TVD so I’m excited to see what else is in store for these characters
