That two-minute preview showed Rick’s group may meet Lucille sooner rather than later.

Before we begin, this post contains major spoilers from the latest

was an action-packed episode: the death (or zombie-fication) of Deanna, the escape of Morgan’s captive Wolf, and Sam’s potentially fatal outburst. But, amazingly, the real “OMG” moment didn’t come during the episode, but the preview for the next one, which showed some of our heroes in the middle of a standoff with an menacing biker gang.

“Your property belongs to Negan,” they ominously said to Daryl.

Now, for those of you who don’t know, Negan is the head of “The Saviors”, a ruthless group controls a large settler colony through barbaric point system, and later, wages a catastrophic war against Alexandria.

We most likely got a sneak peek of this gang in episode six, when Darryl encountered that panicked trio running from them in the woods—but it was unclear how, and if, Rick’s group would encounter them. After all, Terminus mentions cropped up many episodes before they actually arrived there. But in this preview, the Saviors were there in full force, meaning that they are bound to become a plot point by the next episode, when the show returns in February, and probably a full blown, major issue one or two episodes after that.

So what does the inevitability of Negan mean for our favorite characters? Some speculation enhanced by comic book knowledge, below.

Someone will meet “Lucille”—Anyone trolling through

message boards have no doubt encountered a conversation abut who should “meet Lucille”, and no, that’s not just some new survivor that has a really useful skill set. It’s a baseball bat covered in barbed wire, which is Negan’s brutal and beloved weapon. In the comic book, a fan favorite dies from its blows—but given how much the show diverges from the books, guesses about its next victim range far and wide. And before you assume it will just be another useless Alexandrian, realize that the Saviors have no interest taking out the weak. They thrive on controlling their vulnerabilities. One of the original group members is going to die, which means anyone from Glenn, to Daryl, to Rick, to Carol is at risk.

The End of Alexandria—We mentioned in a previous post how the horde won’t destroy Alexandria, because something else needs to destroy it instead. That, we guess, will be the Saviors, who in the comics, launch a war against Rick and co that leads to the fall of the colony. Goodbye, safe haven, hello, turmoil.

New Characters, and A Lot of Them—Although it was just several episodes ago that we were introduced to settlers of Alexandria, probably about three quarters of them have already been killed off (and the rest, save one or two, will probably be eaten by the hoard.) But, the Saviors control a large survivor group called the “Hilltop Colony”, and these more peaceful people aren’t a fan of Negan’s harsh rule either. Maybe, there’s an alliance to be made—and hopefully, they will be a lot more useful than the Alexandrians.
