i thought they do have some similarities: Xena/Buffy are very strong warriors while Xena defiantly does have a darker past than buffy while Willow/Gabrielle start off naive, but morally strong and keep their friend Buffy/Xena emotionally centred as later as the series progressed they each develop their own strengths in combat Willow- witchcraft and gabrielle - joined the amazons and learnt to fight back defensively :)
