Disney Princess Article: Thoughts on Hercules

I've been absent from Fanpop for a while due to the end of school, but I'm back! And I figured it was about time I wrote another article. So after wanting to watch it for YEARS, I finally got around to watching Hercules. I know it's not officially a DP movie, but I've heard it mentioned a lot on here and I wanted to share my opinion of it.

Overall Impression
Fun to watch! A bit cheesy as Disney Filem go, but still a good story. It was an interesting take on the original legend, and though they changed a lot I found that I was still able to lose myself in Disney's version. I liked most of the characters, especially Megara and Hades. Their dynamic was great! She knew how far to push him but didn't aggravate him too much. I liked several of the songs, though a few of them were rather bland (pretty much anything sung sejak Hercules got on my nerves). I really enjoyed the animation. It seemed very Ancient Greek to me and set the mood for the entire movie.

Favorite Characters
I absolutely ADORED the Muses!! They were amazing singers and it was a great idea to make them the narrators. I loved every scene in which they were featured. They each had their individual personalities which their movements and actions reflected. They were just a really great part of the movie for me.

Megara of course was another highlight. She had such a great personality! I Cinta how strong she is - she even saves Hercules at one point! I can relate to her in that I don't like to admit to myself when I've fallen for a guy. I tend to stick to the belief the boys will only hurt anda - until of course I fall for another one. I've also had a boy dump me for a different girl so I know a bit of what Meg is feeling in that regard. I enjoy her Singing voice quite a bit, though it's not one of my bahagian, atas favorites.

Also, Scar's cameo was pretty awesome. Just sayin'. ;D

Favorite Song
Definitely I Won't Say I'm in Love! It's a song I've grown up with, even though I'd never seen the movie before now, and I've always adored it. I completely understand where Meg's coming from, and it's so much fun to sing along to! The back and forth argument between Meg and the Muses is both funny and touching, not to mention that it's sung incredibly well.

Should Megara be a Disney Princess?
This is a tough one. Though I wouldn't mind it if she was a part of the lineup, in many ways I'm glad she isn't. sejak dating the son of a god, that technically gives her princess status, but because she isn't born of royalty atau married to a royal, she really isn't a princess. Also, I didn't enjoy her movie as much as I enjoy the DP movies. Something about it just didn't grab me the way those do.

Sorry this is so short. I'm working on some other projects away from Fanpop right now and I want to focus on them. I hope anda enjoyed it!

dclairmont I'm one of the few people that has Hercules in my top 10, if not my top 5 favorite disney movies. I absolutely loveeeee it!!!! Meg is one of my favorite characters of all time. Anyway, nice article!!! c:

Jayden-G Yeah, I love this movie too, but I have to admit, it is not very strong. The characters and songs are entertaining, but there are A LOT of plot holes. It is still entertaining, and is a good COMEDY. Good article.

MaidofOrleans Thanks everyone! Jayden-G I totally agree with you there. I mean, the entire battle scene makes no sense. Zeus hurls his lightning bolts and they do zero damage, then he gets captured, then Hercules frees him and he gets his lightning bolts back, and all of a sudden they do the job? Seriously? That was definitely not my favorite scene of the movie.

Newbiehere13 Interesting thoughts, Phil's my favorite character in the film but I love the Muses too. It's a good film though it reminds me of Aladdin too much. Great article.

MaidofOrleans Thanks Newbiehere13 :) Yeah Phil was funny, and it did remind me of Aladdin a lot, which is one of the reasons why I didn't like it as much as some of the other Disney films I've seen.

laylastepford I LOVE this movie so much! This has always been one of my favorites. I love all the music (all songs including Hercules' Go the Distance), it always gets my energy going. I love the witty lines consistent throughout the film from Meg, Phil, Hades, etc. I love ancient greek mythology culture and I thought they did a wonderful job Disney-fying it and taking out the overly negative stuff. I love the opening with Charlton Heston into the narrating muses, they are so great throughout the film. "I Won't Say I'm In Love" has definitely always been in my top 5 Disney songs and I love Meg's performance of it with the muses. The back and forth definitely does add to it and make it more fun. Hercules has long been one of my favorite films and I personally do think that Meg should be a princess. My reasoning is that if Jasmine (non-Titular character) and Mulan (not married or born into royalty) fit then I think Meg does too. Hercules was a God who gave up on that to be with Meg. I think refusing the title/status for love makes it even more powerful and encouraging. The movie was fun, clever and had many elements that the other Disney princess films have. I'm sorry that you didn't find it as entertaining. Personally I find it to be one of the most entertaining. I love all the clever lines like when Pain and Panic are trapped under the boulder and one of them says "Help! Someone call "IX-I-I" which is "9-1-1" in roman numerals. There were tons of little things like that, that I just loved. Perhaps it was the geek in me.

MaidofOrleans @laylastepford nice to hear your opinions on it! I'm betting that one of the reasons I don't like it as much as other people is because I didn't see it until I was older so I don't have any nostalgic feelings for it.

Defending the Princesses

I don't know if I'm alone on this, but I've become quite tired of everyone bashing the earlier princesses and saying they're bad role Model for girls. Personally, I think parents shouldn't be relying on fictional, animated characters to be the role models... but that's a whole different issue altogether. In this artikel I want to address the common complaints towards the princesses: waiting around for/needing a man, not being independent, etc...

Snow White:

I want to start with a reminder that Snow White is only 14-years-old. Face it, her story is no different than any other 14-year-old...

My Prettiest Princesses

9.Jasmine
I used to think melati, jasmine wasn't all that pretty. But when I watched her film I realized she's much prettier in motion than she is in still clips. Even so, though, I never found her all that attractive, even as a kid. She has a big nose and her eyes look freakishly large in a lot of scenes. When they get her right, she's pretty, but that's only in about 2 scenes. I think she looks like an alien most of the time.

Why Tangled and Frozen are different.

A lot of people have been complaining that Frozen and Tangled are so alike, how Anna and Rapunzel look like twins atau cousins and blah....well, I'm here to give reasons on why they're different.

1: Anna and Rapunzel

I know, I know, so Anna and Rapunzel "look alike." I feel like the peminat-peminat say this because they were both structured the same, with a circle/oval head, the young eyes, and young face. Hey, at least they don't have the same hair color! Anna and Rapunzel were both made up sejak the same base, meaning the same body, but with different looks, that's all!

In defence of Rapunzel

Rapunzel is one of my favourite princesses. I'm tired of listening to people criticizing Rapunzel and saying that they don't like her for the same reasons, so I wanted to write an artikel to explain why I don't agree with them.

Rapunzel is flawless

She is not perfect! She's very insecure and at the beginning she's not very brave. Also, she's indecisive. Of course, these flaws don't make her a bad character, but it's just easier to relate to her.

Rapunzel remains the same during all the film, she doesn't change.

Ok the truth is that we don't see a dramatic change in her character, like with Eugene....

Everything that was done on this artikel was done sejak GreatLance_30; I am only typing it for him/her. Since the Princess of the bulan was such a success, we wanted to do Prince of the Month. To be completely honest, the results are not really suprising.

I can't see many similarities between the two, but to be fair she was animated sejak Pixar and not Disney. They both seem like strong independent women though :). And I found a picture where they have similar hair!

12. Anna: Kristen Bell
I can see similarities in face shape. Also their eyes are both curvy. I have to admit that Kristen looks lebih like the original concept to the actual one. I Believe it was changed possibly to the complaints of peminat-peminat that she looked too much like Rapunzel.

I like all the princesses a lot, but Tiana is my least kegemaran of the bunch.
