ALL OF THEM are equally selfish. Snow White and the other 9 are all selfish at some points, too.

I'd say Ariel is the most selfish out of the 3. (Though I don't get how Rapunzel is selfish.)

Ranpunzel? Selfish!?
Merida was pretty selfish, but she admitted what she did.
As for Ariel, she didn't fully admit what she did.

AudreyFreak picked Rapunzel.:
I said how Punz is selfish in PL's poll about her. She puts her own (pretty unnecessary) desires above what she believes is morally right and self-justifies what she believes will hurt her mother. All Ariel did was just not take her family into consideration (though I agree she's still selfish to a degree, but not NEARLY as bad as Rapunzel's willfully selfish attitude). Merida WAS pretty selfish, but she regretted how badly she acted and worked to change it.

^^Rapunzel decides to disobey Mother Gothel and leave the tower anyway to see the floating lights--- and that is a selfish choice--- which is similar to Ariel going to Ursula (and disobeying her father's rule about humans).

AudreyFreak picked Rapunzel.:
I agree both choices are selfish. But I was just explaining how Rapunzel is because people asked. But I don't find what Ariel did as hurtful personally- she wasn't intending to hurt anyone (she's just not terribly bright and lacks foresight!), whereas Rapunzel openly admits what she wanted to do would hurt Gothel and decided it was all right anyway. though I guess that starts to fall into "which action is worse" territory, rather than simply what is more selfish.

She left a family, possible future kingdom, and all the love she could ever need for a guy she NEVER knew!!!!

My issue with Merida is she directly inflicts the spell upon her mother, suffering no consequences herself (as far as she knows) which means she's putting her own mother at risk which is pretty bad. Ariel and Rapunzel take actions without considering others, but don't literally put another person at risk intentionally.

I think Ariel and Rapunzel both considered others, even though they still followed through with their initial decision anyway. I think Ariel was less aware of the consequences than Rapunzel though. But Merida didn't consider her mother at all. Jasmine does something similar to Ariel and Rapunzel, but she doesn't intentionally cause harm either. Merida is the only one who does anything intentionally.

These three were all confined in some way; Rapunzel's situation was completely understandable since she had live in the same small space for her 18 years of life, doing the same old things, reading the same old books, and knowing literally NOTHING about ANYTHING besides what she concluded based on her own findings [which wasn't very much] and what Gothel told her, be it lies or truth. GOTHEL was the one who was selfish. Ariel was simply curios and rather naïve about humans and dry land. Going to see Ursula might've not been the best way to go, but then again, it might've been the ONLY way to go. It was dangerous, and maybe even crazy to do so, yeah, but I wouldn't necessarily say it was selfish.

Now MERIDA was the eldest, the heir to the throne and hence a potential ruler to the kingdom. She never took her lessons seriously, didn't understand or appreciate what her mother was doing. She didn't even THINK to perhaps make a compromise with her mother. Or if she did, she didn't think it through very well. She never thought to listen. I can understand her wanting freedom; but as a princess, she has a responsibility, and I don't think she ever really deemed it as important enough. [In the beginning, anyway]

Ariel is incredibly selfish. Rapunzel thinks about people other than herself and sacrifices her happiness for Flynn, Merida learns in the end and apologizes for everything she did while also putting up her happiness and was willing to become a bride for her mother. Ariel...misses out on her families important concerts for her own happiness (While also risking Flounders life in the process) for the millionth time, goes to Ursula out of spite when only thinking about her family once then brushes it off her shoulder, has her friends risk their life's and jobs for her and she doesn't seem to care, then in the end shifts the blame for everything she did to Ursula when she clearly signed the contract and more. YEP.

I don't consider Rapunzel very selfish. Like some people already noted, Ariel was selfish but the one she put in danger was herself. What Merida did is violence. I would forgive my daughter for Rapunzel and Ariel's acts but not for Merida's.
