I think it is unfair that to get medals on a spot you have to have your stuff ratedd alot... likee what happens if your stuff never gets seen or rated that means you wont get medals... and i never knew your stuff had to get rated for you to get medals :S confusing and weird thats all cause i thought it depended on how many things you have uploaded to the spot and stuff.

Btw this was when i started, i know now and have known for a while but it just bugs me lol

Its stupid that people abuse the system for virtual medals. The system is not so mush at fault as the idiots who believe their Fanpop self-worth depends on what medal they have and how quickly they get it.

I dont wanna seem likee i care about medals lol cause i know what im a fan of etc but its just weird ya know the whole way of getting a medal.

I think the system is generally very good, but it fails a little in small spots where not many people come or rate. There are those minor spots where stuff stays unrated for months.

I think that ALL people who rant about medals are J-E-R-K-S.

I agree with Olivine- it's not the system that's at fault, it's the fact that people don't bother to rate things. I've had people take the time to leave comments on the content I've added, but not taken the time to rate it. And then other people abuse the system by getting their friends to rate their content expressly for the purpose of getting medals. So in the end it's the Fanpop users who are at fault for the way the system works.

And I believe medals should be earned by not just adding content- but by adding good content that other users will enjoy and therefore (theoretically) give a high rating. But in the end my philosophy is that medals shouldn't be the reason you contribute things to a spot and therefore if someone rates your stuff that's great but if not, it's not the end of the world. If other people abuse the system and get medals they haven't earned, I roll my eyes at them because it's frankly pathetic to be so invested in something like that that you'd be willing to cheat.

If you contribute steadily(not spamming with a billion crappy videos or pointless picks) to a spot you will eventually get a medal. It just takes time. And if the spot doesn't have many fans or isn't very active, then it will take much longer. But again, medals shouldn't be the reason to contribute. It's not a competition- it's about sharing things with your fellow fans. Medals are just a small bonus.

I agree with a lot of the comments above. If everyone rated everything they looked at... then the system would be pretty awesome.

Also, making it that ratings come into account helps to PROTECT against medal whoring-- helps, but doesn't eliminate obviously. Because (so long as you're not getting all your friends to constantly rate content five stars) it guarantees that you're adding quality content (with good keywords, credit, and description where necessary!) and not just mass uploading. It also shows that you're adding content people appreciate, and not just crap that's vaguely related in order to get a medal.

I think its unfair for spots in which people rarely rate *Naruto spot, Death spot and plenty others* I mean i was on one of my favorite spots in which i added so much content in which it took up nearly all my time and effort but yet it took me 7 months to be dedicated! why sure i nearly jumped my bottom out of my sit when i saw that green medal because i was so happy but yet it was a pain i could see like 4 or 5 months but 7 months while after that i went to another spot in which it took me a month to become dedicated? I mean it should be like this 25% ratings 50% on how much content you have added 25% on how long you have been joined to the spot. That only seems fair to me considering you cant have people that have only been here a day add a bunch of content and get a medal you also cant have it completely depend on ratings because as i said some spots dont have people who are willing to rate

I guess just cuz everybody doesnt rate everything they see... But it doesnt really matter this is just a website how I really feel is nothing compared to what I do on here...

What I think is kinda stupid is when people do rate your things and appreciate your work, but you still don't receive a medal! :(

In one particular fanclub, I have posted five pages of pop quiz questions where at least fifteen people answered to each one. They have argued against my facts, but hey, they answer.
I also posted a link, some images, and videos to that club as well. Almost all of those were rated. I am also a top contributor. But one thing is missing....

WHERE IS MY MEDAL?

Now, please, no one look at me as a "medal w***e". I understand that posting things and waiting for them to be rated is the ideal way for a medal, and I do exactly that. I try my best to not cheat for medals and I highly appreciate and cherish the 7 medals I have, now. But I have been waiting months for that medal, and with all that I have contributed, I still don't have it!? I don't feel that it's fair!

well if we didnt have this ... then people can add what ever they wonted on spot - even if know one like it ... yeah its mest up that some stops dont have that many fans ~ but thats the hole point of - adding to a spot > so that people wonted to go to a club

when i first came here i just add ... not caring if anyone like it - just wonted medals - but know i take my time adding stuff that people actually like an love - then they favorite it

If it was the case that people have to rate your content a lot for you to get a medal, I would say "Yes, it's stupid." But it's not the case, and never has been.

Nobody but the Fanpop staff have any idea how medals work, first of all. We like to make guesses, though!

Second, ratings don't exist anymore, but medals do. So ratings clearly can't be part of medals.
