This Long Unseen Character Is Coming Back To Game Of Thrones
If you’ve been keeping tabs on the casting decisions made regarding Game of Thrones Season 6, you probably already know that a lot of characters we haven’t seen in a while have or will be making an appearance in the new episodes. We’ve already seen the likes of Hodor, Bran, Yara Greyjoy, Balon Greyjoy and more pop in. But this week Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams revealed that Rickon Stark will also be a part of Game of Thrones Season 6.
Maisie Williams was taking calls on a BBC Radio 1 program featuring Nick Grimshaw when a fan of the show asked whether or not Rickon Stark will be back. The actress answered in the affirmative, and then cracked a joke about hearing about it from the show after she opened up about the big spoiler.
Yes, we will indeed… Oh no, I’m literally going to get off the air and someone’s going to email me! Consider the character confirmed. While her comment is obviously not a lot to go off of, presumably Rickon is still living with Osha somewhere in the North. However, we haven’t seen the character since Season 3 so a lot could have potentially happened to the young man since then. During the ninth episode “The Rains Of Castamere,” Bran asked Osha to take Ricken to be with the Umber family, who are loyal to the North and the Starks. Bran then proceeded to head North of the Wall, where he eventually began his warging training. The character wasn’t even in Season 5, but Rickon has been missing in action for way longer than that.
I should note that the woman on the phone who asked the question did so sort-of cryptically, asking, “Will we hear from Rickon?” (This as opposed to, “Will we see Rickon?”) I suppose it’s entirely possible that the show could sort-of shoehorn in word of the character’s fate via a letter or something, instead of including an appearance from the actor, although either way at least we will know what he and Osha have been doing for the last three seasons. However, if we do see Rickon on the small screen, we should note that the now-teenaged Art Parkinson looks a little different these days, so if we do see him, I’m not even sure how quickly I’d recognize the character.
Along with the characters we have seen pop back in during Season 6, word on the street says we’ll also get an appearance from the Hound sometime during the new season. If you’d like more in-depth spoilers on that probable appearance, head here.
Game of Thrones on HBO on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET. For more information about Season 6, check out everything we know.
