Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Some George R.R. Martin fans were disappointed Sunday’s
episode, “The Broken Man,” didn’t include an epic speech from the books that inspired the episode’s title. So the folks at Genius.com reached out to
creator David Milch to read the speech instead. Amazingly, he agreed. (Milch’s
star Ian McShane was prominently featured in the episode in a role that was loosely based on Septon Meribald, the character who gave the speech in Martin’s
co-executive producer Bryan Cogman explained in our post-episode Q&A regarding McShane’s character, Brother Ray: “[The character of Ray] is a combination of a couple characters in the books – with additional characteristics we added. One of those characters gives a speech in the fourth book referred to as ‘The Broken Man’ speech by A Song of Ice and Fire fans. The speech itself didn’t make it into the episode, but it inspired the character and some of his dialogue. So the title of the episode is a nod to that speech – kind of like when we called episode 205 ‘The Ghost of Harrenhal,’ even though that term wasn’t spoken out loud in the show.”
Also, in our interview this week with McShane the actor weighed in on the latest
