so this is the first rendition of my first ever fanfiction
Episode 1: All Isnāt Lost
Moments were a scarce feature in the winter. Mostly, the time passed quickly. Days moved through time with a definite purpose and overwhelming guilt. Snow blanketed over streets and railways and bus stop benches, heaven had never been so beautiful. But this was Chicago, and winter had its kryptonite.
Along the alleyway the snow pilled in dirt ridden clumps and around the multiple tracks of ambulans tires. Footprints delved into the softness every few inches, yet the snow seemedā¦unharmed. Moving in and out of synchrony, figures stirred about, still disturbing father winter. Heads succeeded down, into scarves and hats, away from the brisk that was a bi-product of the snow. Pairs of eyes closed, each of which grew into a different thought, then opened to the bitterness again, losing that glimpse of hope.
Around the corner, the main jalan was littered with cars, trucks, buses, women in high heels running as fast as they possibly could across the walkway. Men in Suits casually strolled along, sneering under their breath at the women in high heels and their long legs. The noise was chaotic. Horns, cell phones, revving engines, and sirens rang like bells on a Sunday wedding through the think, flurry filled air.
The sirens grew in sound, slowly, then quickly getting louder with each block passed. Patrons of the city knew this all too well, it played out like a perfect test. The cars and trucks and buses all steered to the curb, where they would patiently wait for the ambulans to pass. Little sejak little, the vehicles would alih back into position on the four-laned road. It wasnāt until the rig began to glide toward the turn that surrounding people noticed something was wrong.
The ambulans was just feet from the turn into the alleyway. As it turned it went up on its right two wheels, hung, forever it seemed, in the air, then at an alarming speed crashed violently into another parked ambulance. A sound echoed through the bay, followed sejak a light and heat that lit up the areaā¦then, allā¦wentā¦quiet.
This was the County General Teaching Hospital. And THIS, was just another morning.
The third floor was unusually quiet. Cuddy walked in stride from the far elevator. Her knee length skit moved in tone with the muscles of her legs, while the soft, violet sweater plunged down away from her neckline leading to where her ruby pendent kalung sat. The high heels made a knocking sound as they kept in time with tempo. She stopped when she reached a glass door about half way down the hall. Inside, she only saw a shoe of the corner of her eye. It rested on a tan, corduroy foot rest. She rolled her eyes pushed open the glass door. As it swung open 110 degrees, it hit the dinding behind it, creating an especially loud crash. This woke House, who jumped from the chair with a grunt.
He eyed her from the very bahagian, atas of her dark brown curly hair to the very tip of her black high heels. Tilting his head in just the slightest he spoke,
āIāve got the key to the on-call room...and Iām pretty sure the sheets are fairly clean, but in case they arenāt, ill let anda be on top.ā
She opened her mouth for a clever retort, but simply sighed instead.
āGo to the ER to help.ā Not saying atau insinuating anything further, she turned to leave.
āWait, wait, wait.ā He lifted his bad leg off of the foot rest and onto the ground and stood up beside her.
He was about a foot taller then her, yet she controlled the tension.
āThis isnāt evenā¦ā He eyed her again from head to toe. āWell, I was gonna say this isnāt even worth anda coming up here just to have me say no, but that hardly seems like the case now that Iāve seenā¦that.ā His eyes stopped just where her kalung sat. āTell Carter to deal with it.ā Turning back toward the chair, he grabbed his cane and began walking toward his meja and away from Cuddy.
āThe ER is slammed, House. Carter is trying to run that chaotic mess of a blizzard we have going on, and anda arenāt doing anything but sleeping and dreaming of me.ā āItās the ER, atau a bulan of clinic duty.ā Cuddy knew how his mind ran; an ultimatum was the best possible choice to give.
Now, it was House that sighed. He said, not bothering to turn around, āFine, ill go to the ERā¦ā He than moved toward her, she was so taken aback that she had to take a step back from him. āā¦Iāll leave anda here to figure out a fun way to make it up to me.ā
The door again broke into a sound on the pane as it swung from force. Cuddy was left alone in the room with a satisfied look now menunjukkan from her smile. Around the corner, she could hear the beeping of the elevator as it landed on the floor for pickup. Again, it sounded as the doors closed.
The ride down was an escape scheme for House. It was his precious few saat to figure out how to get out of having to go to the ER. Keeping his head down, staring at the hard tile floor of the elevator, he thought. A ring again sounded notifying the occupants of their arrival to the floor. He was out of time. As the doors opened, it seemed like time sped up ten times.
Gurneys lined the halls, most with yelping patients in them, screaming for assistance. Gloves, masks and the occasional sterile drape littered themselves around the gurneys. Doctors and nurses ran, not walked through the jammed area, on missions, each of which House was sure he did not want to partake in.
House felt a breeze in his hair as 2 doctors and a nurse ran a gurney past him. One doctor was strattleing the patient doing CPR while the other doctor was squeezing the ambu bag while pushing the cart, troli with his free hand.
āHey House, we could use anda in here!ā A familiar voice renounced in the open hall. It faded as the cart, troli strolled away. House reluctantly followed the screech of the voice.
He found himself entering a room with double doors that swung both ways with large capital Penulisan on it that stated: TRIAGE ROOM 3.
āOne, Two, Threeā¦ā The two doctors and the nurse heaved the patient onto the stationary guyney in the room.
āG.S.W. to the mid-abdominal cavity, two liters out on the scene, intubated and CPR started after desating to 67% then going into V-Tach.ā House had yet to fully come into the room. The familiar voice spoke again, āOK, crash cart, lets charge to 200!...Clearā¦ā everyone held up their hand as the one word was spoken. āStill in V-Tach!ā āCharge to 250ā¦Clearā¦ā The patient jolted up from the electricity. āBack in sinus rhythm, Carter.ā āGood, now I want four units type specific, get a full chest, neck, and abdominal series, 12 lead, full blood work up with BMP and Creatnine, chest tube, and foley.ā
The nurse and other doctor unlocked the brakes and rolled the gurney out of the room, one still squeezing the Ambu bag every two seconds. Carter slung off his bloody gloves and yellow gaun and threw them to the floor. āThanks for your help House.ā
House, who was still right beside the double doors smiled. āAnytime buddy. Nice save. Soā¦ya hungry?ā Carter chuckled under his breath and walked past the double doors once again into the frantic hall. āDoc Magooās?ā
House half smiled and turned out of the room, following Carterās footsteps. āWell would anda look at that, Iāve seemed to have left my wallet ALL the way up in my officeā¦ā He had now caught up to Carter and the two were walking side sejak side toward the exit to the ER. āRelax, anda mooch, Iām payin. So, whereās Wilson?ā āSome court hearing with his saat wifeā¦pfff,ā House shrugged. The two stepped into the pahit cold outside the ER ambulans bay, trudging through the deep snow and tire tracks. Cane marks along with two sets of footprints found their way right beside a parked rig. A scream rang through the air as an ambulans shot toward them. A sound echoed through the bay, followed sejak a light and heat that lit up the areaā¦then, allā¦wentā¦quiet.
