They are true. As buku created for children and young adults, they manage to give off both a lightly fairytale energy, but also hold a certain audacity to themselves - as in 'KISS', where it deals with the potential emotional catastrophes of falling in Cinta with your life-long best friend; the fear and misery that comes when anda come to a point where the reality of the here and now begins to erase the innocence and simplicity of childhood... and, finally, homosexuality. I think it was my favourite part of the book to find out that Karl was a homosexual, not only because it proved my earlier sneaking-suspicions, but because it showed me that Jacqueline Wilson, despite being an penulis for children, still had the literary audacity that I believe many of us secretly crave but don't have the bravery to admit to. I've always LOVED Jacqueline Wilson, especially from very early on, simply because she isn't afraid to tackle 'taboo' topics - and does it with both a subtle and beautiful grace. I applaud Wilson, not only as an author, but as person.
