Castle's Nathan Fillion Breaks Silence on Stana Katic's Exit: 'She'll Be Missed' 

Almost 24 hours after the news broke that ABC’s

would not be asking back Stana Katic for a possible Season 9, series star Nathan Fillion has offered his first thoughts on his leading lady’s exit.

“Stana has been my partner all this time, and I thank her for creating the character of Beckett,” the actor shared in a message posted to Twitter. “I wish her well, and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues. She will be missed.”

As for the series’ unavoidably new incarnation should it be renewed for Season 9, Fillion wrote, “

They should cancel this show. I don’t watch but these cast changes never work. Won’t work with Sleepy Hollow either if they miraculously get a fourth season.

He can’t control ABC and their decisions. I can’t imagine the show going on without Stana. I LOVE Fillion and have followed his career since One Life to Live, but as much as I know he can carry a show, I don’t want to watch this show without her.

That’s kind of my reaction as well. I love him but the show won’t be the same.

He can’t put it in his contract that he and SK only work two days per episode.

that’s not how partnerships work, bud. partners fight for one another. he didn’t use any of his leverage to keep her on as his partner. he is showing zero respect for the creators of the show and their artistic vision. the majority of the fans are there for the both of them together, not just him. this is a shame.

Im not saying Fillion is guilty here, but many actors have teamed up multiple times when they renegotiate contracts. That’s a very prevalent thing in Hollywood. Given S&N arent really friends, it doesnt come as a surprise that they didnt though.

There are some rumblings he may not be that unhappy she is leaving. HOLLYWOOD REPORTER said that Fillion was Urging ABC to RENEW Seamus and Jon’s contracts. If that is true well it speaks for itself does it not

This is a BS statement written by some publicist! Love Nate, but he should walk away unless they bring Stana and Tamala back.

Because he owes no loyalty to the rest of the cast and crew who will be out of a job if he walks? A show employs many people and he may want to let them continue to have jobs.

Because screw the hundred of people who would be out of a job if he did that right?

What about the people that will be out of a job if the show gets canceled because of this crazy decision? He could fight a little harder for both of them but esp Stana and know that fans of that show want to continue with both leads.

Those same people will get jobs on the new pilot that would likely replace Castle on Monday’s at 10/9c. And if that show’s a success, they would have years of work. This idea that they have to keep the show running for the crew is ridiculous. Shows end and crews are out of a job. As unfortunate as that is, that’s the nature of the industry.

This is the real world. Trust me, people don’t quit when co-workers are let go for any reason. If you were fired tomorrow, would your co-workers quite in solidarity? I kind of doubt it.

Castle can survive without Beckett. This relationship ran it’s course. Looking forward to seeing a revamp if they get a Season 9.

I was on the verge of dropping it from my viewing after this season, as much as I love Nathan Fillion, but now I’m looking forward to seeing what they do next season.

Totally agree with Kris and Audrey. It took him or his publicist 24 hours to come up with these meaningless words. After 8 years with Katic this is the best he can do. Castle without Becket is a non-starter. Did not even watch last nigh’e episode and erased it from the DVR.

OK, so Nathan has drank the “Castle can go on without Beckett” Kool-aid. I can’t blame him for that. We are talking about hundreds of thousands in residuals over the course of his life for even one more season, and no one knows better than Nathan that you might never catch the lightning of a hit show in a bottle again.

I’m sad for Rick, happy for Nathan to have another season, and will punish ABC’s misogyny by not watching further Castle seasons and not picking up new shows from it again for another 4 or 5 or more years, something I have done before with ABC. I am getting more and more picky about what shows I pick up in this overflowing TiVO age. Eliminating a whole network is just fine with me.

Personally I think Nathan stirred and poured the Castle 🏰 Kool-Aid and forced others to drink. IMO he is delusional if he thinks the show will continue for years without Stana/Beckett. The only reason the show has lasted as long as it has was because of the lightning in bottle that happened when he worked with Stana. Honestly, I think his track record shows that he doesn’t have what it takes to carry a show on shoulders alone.

I kept watching after the wedding episode, but that was such a stunt with no pay off I started losing interest. Then when they separated them at the beginning of this season I stopped watching after 2 episodes.

Ive always loved Nathan and Stana individually and i will be eternally grateful for their work together in creating one of greatest couples on TV ever.

I havent cared much for their bts drama because i never felt it on the show but recently it seems like has been the reason for a lot of the messes on Castle. Whatever the truth, we’ll never really know, i just find it very sad and disappointing. I also just find it a bit sad that this it is what took him to acknowledge her on social media in a complimentary way for the first time in many years.

Additionally i get there are jobs involved with shows so wishing cancellation is a never the best thing. But i wish Nathan and ABC could for once recognize what made this show tick. Clearly they do not. Now my only hope is given the backlash ABC decides not to renew because honestly a Beckett-less Castle is not worth it.

Its just sad that they cant honor such a great show’s legacy in the right way.

If in case s9 does happen, my only hope is that Beckett is not written off by getting killed. Please at least give Castle and Beckett some shot at a happy ending. She will be missed, but probably not by him. I love this show but ending each episode going off to the bedroom is getting old and trying to avoid scenes together is obvious even to me. I hope they ride off into the sunset together on their motorcycles and then the show ends on a nice note.

I love Castle and NCIS posts. Brings out all the crazies. I swear they write better fiction about behind the scenes stuff that no matter what they believe, they don’t know anything about then what’s actually showing up on the show.

I’ve often wondered if the behind the scenes speculating for Castle is along the same lines as the behind the scenes speculating about Gilmore Girls during its run. People believed all of the same things about Scott Patterson and Lauren Graham that they say about Fillion and Katic now. When the show ended it came out that Patterson and Graham got along okay. They were friendly, but they looked at each other as coworkers and not all coworkers have to be buddy-buddy all of the time. But, the fact that they weren’t the greatest friends ever meant that they hated each other according to the internet rumor mill.

I feel so bad about all of this drama and horrendous PR that ABC has brought upon this former gem of a show. Generally, when an employer chooses to let go of an employee of two, it really only affects the families and immediate coworkers. Well this time the employer is affecting their very loyal fan base, an entire production of 400+ people and their families. Of every comment I’ve read, and I’ve read thousands, not even a fraction of them have anything good to say about this move. I feel like ABC wants to rid their schedule of anything that hints of witty, fun and smart and prefers the formulaic drama of Shonda. I don’t like Shonda or any of her shows, if I wanted to watch crazy people, I’d watch KUWTK. I said it before, at least the writers from HIMYM waited until the series finale to give the fans the finger, ABC chose to do that even before the series finale…which it will be now.

Get real, everyone! First of all, it is painstakingly obvious that this is a lip service-y, publicist’s release. But even if it wasn’t, honestly…with the axe dropping left, right and centre around you, would you seriously give the executioner lip?

Looks like he’s willing to go on with the show (and I’m pretty sure that this means season 9 is coming), but I’m deeply disappointed that he isn’t willing to stand up for his co-star.

Good for him and at least he acknowledge her this time, but this show really think they can pull a Grey’s Anatomy and come back and be better? Did the first half of season 8 not teach them anything? Who checked the numbers and decided that this show can go on without Stana, it was never an ensemble so I don’t know how their math work and they decided this was ok. Anyway, my hope is that they don’t kill her character at the end of the season, give it a happy ending so that people like us that aren’t coming back can at least be happy with that.

I’ve never watched the show but that statement came across as very impersonal to me.

If Nathan Fillion wants to continue with ABC he should suggest CASTLE be ended and start fresh.

Not going to watch without the Castle Beckett couple

Again, hate to see Stana leave. It’s a tough business & sucks to lose a favorite character. I hope the show is renewed and will support it. Renewal means a lot of behind the scenes people get to keep their jobs to support their families. Be happy for them! When my favorite ball team trades one of my favorite players, I don’t stop rooting for the team. Be a fan during the hard times too!

I always loved this show, right up till they got married. From then on it started on a downhill slide for me. If they get another season, I think that will be their last one.

Reading the @’s to his tweet, I think he is getting a pretty clear picture of this crazy notion of “continues for years to come”. Must be hard pill to swallow thinking you are the reason people are watching your show and turning out that is not the case. He doesn’t want to hear it. He is blocking anyone who says they won’t watch, even if said respectfully.

Castle should be given a feel good finale to end Season 8 out of respect for a great cast and crew who delighted fans for 7 seasons. End it on a high.

Have you ever worked in a place where everyone got along all the time? I haven’t but that didn’t stop us for doing our jobs. And if it did interfere with work, the person who got let go was generally the one causing the problem or the one deemed least valuable to the company. That’s how life works. But I have also worked in places where good people got let go for financial reasons. We don’t know what happened. And I don’t think the whole cast and crew should be put out of work because someone decided to let Stana go.

I can’t imagine Castle without Beckett but I couldn’t imagine Sam without Diane and that worked out okay. Life goes on, especially for the hundreds of people at Castle who may still have a job.

This change was probably not a big shock to Stana. They were obviously trying different ways to make the show work without her. She as much as said last year, by delaying her sign-up, that she didn’t want to go on. I don’t know if Nathan and Stana didn’t get along or not. Many stars don’t like their co-worker and still make it look real on-screen. I think they did that but the writers and producers chose to part them to shake things up. Bad move then and now. This is a sad ending for what was a terrific show.

I’m a Nathan fan but even I think this is pretty lame and written by a publicist. He does not have any control over what the network does but geesh, could have been a little more from the heart. He will not be invited to my next birthday party!!

I canceled the series pass on my DVR after yesterday’s news. Castle has been a bit of a chore to watch for the last few years but now even more so. I just don’t see the point in it continuing on past this season, especially without two such beloved characters. I’m sad for everyone whose heart is still with this show because seeing this mess unfold is disappointing to say the least.

Nathan, I like you as Rick Castle and I love the show, however, now that Stana( Kate) and Tamala( Lanie) are no longer on the show, I can honestly say that if there is a Season 9 for Castle I will not watch it. Now with that being said, if the powers that be were to bring her back as Kate then I would start watching the show again.

I actually think Fillion may be the villain here. While I think Tamala’s dismissal was finance based, I am not as convinced that is the sole reason for Stana’s. It has been leaked several times over the past few years that NF was less than thrilled with sharing the spotlight with his co-star, whose star has brightened as the show has evolved. It is just my opinion, but her removal may have been a condition of his to return. I do not buy into the rhetoric he is expressing here. His fingerprints are all over this development, and it is likely going to backfire on him.

The people on this comment section that go straight to blaming Nathan Fillion for something that’s out of control is hilarious, but the people who think that he should just threaten to do something radical unless they bring Stana Katic back is probably the single most absurd thing I’ve ever read. And then there’s the complaints about his comments…… real friends don’t make their feelings/thoughts public. They tell them to the person in private and it stays that way. Grow up people.

After this news, I’m hoping we can get back to a show that is about the investigation of crime with a writer who brings a bit of humor to the seriousness of police work.
