One Direction first name confirmed for Band Aid 30th anniversary single
Adele also rumoured with role in new version of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'
One Direction are the first names to be confirmed to be involved in recording a new version of \'Do They Know It\'s Christmas?\' for Band Aid\'s 30th anniversary.
The Sun says that Bob Geldof has asked the boyband to be involved with the charity single, which will be released later this month, with Adele among the other names he is also keen to recruit. Geldof is thought to also be interested in inviting Florence And The Machine\'s Florence Welch, Ben Howard and Alt-J to appear on the song.
A source told the newspaper: "Sir Bob has gone all out to get the biggest names in pop for the fourth release of \'Do They Know It\'s Christmas?\'. Harry, Louis, Zayn, Liam and Niall were among the first stars on the organisers\' list and they jumped at the chance to get involved."
They added: "As with previous Band Aid releases, there\'s likely to be a mix of credible and pop acts featuring on the recording."
The report claims that proceeds from the single will be used to fight the Ebola crisis in Africa. The original Band Aid single, recorded and released in 1984, featured the likes of Bono, Paul Weller, Sting, George Michael and Simon Le Bon. The track was written by Boomtown Rats singer Geldof and Ultravox\'s Midge Ure.
A second version of the track, featuring pop stars such as Kylie Minogue and Bananarama, was released in 1989 while in 2004 Geldof organised \'Band Aid 20\' to coincide with the song\'s 20th birthday. The reworked song, which included contributions from Coldplay\'s Chris Martin, Dizzee Rascal and Snow Patrol as well as instrumentation from Radiohead\'s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, was a Christmas Number One and the year\'s biggest-selling single.
