Can Vampires EAT?

Okay, just a little conflict. Correct me because I'm confused.

I've read something--a comment, maybe--that says Vampires can EAT, but Makanan don't do anything about their bodies, so they don't EAT. This is that commentator says:
'Edward swallowed a huge bite of pizza' something something.

Now, my side. This is in NEW MOON book page 399. Charlie and Alice were eating. And Bella thought this:
'I wondered where Alice was hiding the food.'

Hiding. The. Food. What now? Do Vampires EAT atau NOT?

Yes, Vampires CAN eat. But they don't like to, blood being their natural and prefered Makanan sumber but they will and can eat Makanan to keep up pretenses. But like I said, they don't like normal food.

Lol, anyway they can physically eat it, but there body doesn't digest it and they end up having to spit it up latter. Doesn't that sound pleasant? Oh and human Makanan tastes and smells awful to them, atau as they put it like eating dirt. So the only reason they would eat at all would be to blend in and seem human. :)
