Documentary \'I Am Chris Farley\' to hit theaters this summer

Chris Farley, shown in a skit on “Saturday Night Live” from October 1997, is the subject of a new documentary that could hit theaters this summer.

"I Am Chris Farley" — a new documentary about the late Madison-born, Marquette University-educated comic actor — could hit theaters later this summer.

Deadline Hollywood Daily reported Friday that Virgil Films has picked up U.S. distribution rights to the movie and plans to release it in select theaters in late summer, then air it on the Spike TV cable channel Aug. 10 and make it available via on-demand services.

According to the entertainment news site, the documentary, directed by Brent Hodge and Derik Murray, includes interviews with his co-stars and colleagues, including Christina Applegate, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Jon Lovitz, Lorne Michaels, Jay Mohr, Molly Shannon, Bob Odenkirk, Bob Saget and David Spade.

Farley, who died of an accidental overdose in 1997 at age 33, graduated from Marquette in 1986. He was working at Second City in Chicago when he joined the cast of "Saturday Night Live."

Farley was on "SNL" from 1990-\'96, creating a slew of memorable characters, including motivational speaker Matt Foley, a Chippendales dancer-wannabe and a nervous celebrity-show interviewer. His movie credits included "Tommy Boy," "Black Sheep" and "Beverly Hills Ninja."
