Murtag had the chance to change. Eragon gave him the option to. But he chose not to go through all that effort. He could have been freed but if he doesnt want, then I believe he doesn't deserve it. Plus he's using other dragons eldunari. So that is why I believe Eragon and Saphira rule! They fight for what they believe in! They don't just take the easy path! And what matters most is that they care about each other. Unlike Murtag and Thorn.
Those are my reasons. But they don't have to be yours. You believe what you want to but this is what I believe.
