Dovepaw woke up in her nest in the medicine cats’ den. Her whole body ached. She strained her ear to her around camp. No one was in the den, except for her. She listened to the warriors.
“Did anda hear about how our little warrior fought?”
She listened all the way around the camp. It was the same topic. Dovepaw heard Mintflight coming. She laid her head back down. She tried to get up.
“ Slow down, Dovepaw.” It was Mintflight. “ Let me help anda up.”
Mintflight put her shoulder under her to help her up.
“Can anda manage it sejak yourself?” Mintflight asked.
“I think…” Dovepaw meowed back hoarsely.
Mintflight ducked away for Dovepaw try to stand sejak herself. Almost, immediately her legs buckled, she would have fallen but Mintflight caught her.
“ I’ll help you.” Mintflight mewed “Don’t worry. Why don’t we get something from the fresh-kill pile? Come on.”
They head toward the pile with Mintflight supporting her with her shoulder. They picked out a squirrel, then headed back to the medicine den.
“You were very lucky, Dovepaw.” Mintflight meowed when they had begun eating in the den. “ anda were out for quarter-moon. When we got to you, anda were in bad shape.”
Dovepaw got up, wincing in pain, and limped over to the stream in the den. She looked down and saw her ear, torn at the tips. Her pelt had long claw-marks on her flanks and shoulders.
“Dovepaw, I found some honey. It will help your throat.” Mintflight encouraged.
“O.k.” Dovepaw hadn’t noticed till now, how much her throat had been hurting.
The honey defiantly soothed her throat.
“I am going to check on Cedarbranch. I promised him I would. Same with Swanfeather. Is that okay?” Dovepaw meowed with lebih strength in her voice than before.
“I guess so. I have already checked on Cedarbranch and Swanfeather while anda were out. But I guess anda can go.” Mintflight replied.
Dovepaw limped off towards the nursery. Spotting Swanfeather, she tried to go faster. Only to slow down again because of the pain.
“Hey, Swanfeather.” Dovepaw meowed “How are you?”
“I’m fine” Swanfeather mewed back ”The real soalan is: How are you?”
“I’m….better, I guess.” Dovepaw meowed thoughtfully “I can’t feel a difference from when the battle ended. Considering I just woke up from being out for a quarter-moon, stiff and sore would be the words.”
“That’s good that anda are finally up.” Swanfeather commented. “ anda better go back and rest. anda look pretty wiped to me.”
Dovepaw nodded her head in agreement, and turned around to limp back to the medicine den. She stuck her head through the entrance and called to Mintflight,
“I’m going to the elders’ den. I’ll be right back.”
She pulled her head out of the opening and began to stumble across the clearing. She poked her head into the elders den.
“Hi, Cedarbranch.” Dovepaw mewed “I’m here, like I promised.”
Cedarbranch looked up and frowned. “You are a quarter-moon late, Dovepaw. What were anda thinking? Leaving me with a horrid cough for a quarter-moon? Really Dovepaw, didn’t any cat tell anda not to make promises anda can’t even keep?”
Dovepaw hati, tengah-tengah pounding fast. Will Cedarbranch keep this grudge on me?
Thunderclaw laughed and Ivypool joined in.
“Good old Cedarbranch.” They nudge each other and continued their playful giggles.
“ I kidding, Dovepaw.” The elderly tom finally added “ I’m glad to see that you’re up.”
“I’m glad to be up.” Dovepaw shrugged, trying her best not to hurt her shoulders anymore. “ How is your cough?”
The elderly tom sighed , “ It got treated when your patrol came back.” He looked Dovepaw up and down. “You should go back to sleep. You’ll recover faster. And, of course, anda are going to meet the other medicine Kucing tonight, aren’t you?”
Dovepaw nodded her head and tried to say her good-byes to Thunderclaw and Ivypool, but they wouldn’t stop laughing. She sighed and padded out of the den, heading for the medicine den. When she got there, she walked right past Mintflight and straight into her nest. Sleep washed over Dovepaw within moments.
