Voices called all around her , “Dawnpaw! Dawnpaw! Help me! Help me!” Dovepaw voice was clearest. “ Why aren’t anda helping me! Please! Help…….” Dovepaw’s voiced died off.
Dawnpaw woke with a start, gasping for breath, then realizing it was a dream.
“Dawnpaw?” It was Thrushpaw. “ Are anda okay? You’ve been fidgeting all night.”
Relived that it was Thrushpaw, she took a deep breath and replied, “I’m fine. It was just a dream….“ she wondered if she could tell her den mate what she really dreamed about.
“About Dovepaw?” His golden brown eyes sparkled with concern.
“Yeah.” She sighed. “It’s all my fault that she got hurt. I froze, while she stayed and fought two full grown Pineclan warriors sejak herself like a true warrior.” Tears streamed from Dawnpaw’s eyes. “I should have been in her place. I should have been fighting for my life while she went to get help. I’m a warrior in training. She is atau was a medicine cat apprentice.” She continued to sob on Thrushpaw’s shoulder.
“Hey.” He gentle nudged her. “It’s okay. Mintflight is the best medicine cat we could ask for. If any one can save her, it’s Mintflight.”
Her tears lighted up but she continued to cry silently till she fell asleep on Thrushpaw’s shoulder. When Dawnpaw woke up, she was curled up seterusnya to Thrushpaw. She looked out of the den to see the morning sun setting in. Dawnpaw took a breath of the morning air before she got up silently and carefully left the small den. As she exited the den, she saw a small fluffy gray cat limping quickly across the clearing. Dovepaw! Dawnpaw knew instantly that it was her. She must of just woke up. She thought.
“Dawnpaw!” Redleaf called, trotting up to her from the warriors’ den. “There anda are. We’re going on a hunting patrol.” Redleaf followed her gaze. “ Ah, I see Dovepaw’s up. Come on. Lets get to the patrol.”
The patrol was made up of Antfeather, Iceshadow, and Redleaf and herself. First, the patrol headed towards Great Sycamore.
But Dawnpaw wasn’t focused on the prey. She was focus on the thought of her sister. sejak the end of their hunt, Dawnpaw had barely managed a mouse.
“Dawnpaw,” Redleaf asked “You are usually so good at hunting. There was a lot of prey out, too. Yet anda only caught a scrawny mouse. Why?”
Dawnpaw stifled a sigh. “I’m just… out of my game, I guess.”
“Why don’t anda take a nap?” Redleaf offered. “You look like anda had a bad night, Dawnpaw. We’ll go on a border patrol later, how’s that?” Redleaf walked off towards the warriors den, then came out moments later, conversing with Mosspelt.
She turned her head away from their nods and went to the apprentice den to take a nap, knowing that it would help. Dawnpaw lied down seterusnya to the still asleep Thrushpaw and closed her eyes, feeling very warm and content.
What felt like moments later, a paw prodded her side.
“let’s go on the patrol, Dawnpaw.”
