All I can really say is that they are completely different than the movies. You'd have to read them yourself to find out, but there are many differences, and the Filem could never even compare to the buku :)

which is saying a lot cause the Filem are AMAZING.
but the buku are like,
'whoa!!!UN-BEIVEABLE!'

Just read the books, they're awesome, fun. You'll get so into the story you'll finish them in no time...

Then I guess anda could see the movies, I guess. It's going to be hard to find someone who can explain... But if anda don't like the Filem atau find them boring atau something else makes anda not want to see the movies, then Harry Potter is just not for you...
