This is my first time Penulisan a movie review.
From the first five minit when I was watching this film, I had already predicted almost half of what's to come later on. I was first introduced to a scene when Balthazar was fighting with Horvath (I think) and Merlin saying that there will be the one who will stop Morgana and her plan to dominate the world with dead people. Then we are introduced to Dave and his meeting with Balthazar. I can already tell that he's the one and what his reaction will be.
Anyway I don't feel like summarizing the whole thing so I'm gonna cut to my opinion on this. It has a lot of special effects and some humor. I, however, was not impressed with this movie. If anda cut down all the visual-effects and the fancy stuff with the fire-ball shooting, you'll find the movie to be boring and unoriginal. Well I wouldn't say boring but the plot was so cliche. There's the dorky main character who is introduced to a prophecy about him to a warlock. The warlock then tells him he has to face his fate. Obviously, the main character freaks out and does the same "I can't do this" thing.
At the end, I really was rooting for Balthazar to come back to life again but after that, I was definitely frowning. How many times have we seen someone that looks to be almost dead (and it happens after the climax when everything is solved) but then comes back to life with a funny line?
Another thing that was totally predictable was the fact that Dave's girl, who he's had a crush on since little, was suddenly threatened. We see Horvath threatening Dave that if he doesn't hand over the ring, he'll kill her. Now where have we heard that before? Also the fact that the girl is one of those people who is just oh so innocent and sweet. What are the odds that Dave ends up with her?
Another thing that pisses me off was the lines in this movie. Sure they're so hilarious and all that but who the heck says them? anda don't just make up funny catch lines on the spot when the world is being threatened sejak an evil sorceress.
The Berlakon in this movie was great. A bit weak with the main character's part but Nicholas Cage made up for it. So does the villain, Horvath with his funny accent.
All in all, a not so great movie but alright for people who enjoy family/action movies.
