Up to now Real Madrid has been managed by: three Argentines (Carniglia, Di Stéfano and Valdano), three Englishmen (Arthur Johnson, Robert Firth and Michael Keeping), two Germans (Heynckes and Schuster), two Dutchmen (Beenhakker and Hiddink), two Serbs (Boskov and Antic), two Uruguayans (Enrique Fernández and Héctor Scarone), two Portuguese (Queiroz and Mourinho), two Italians (Capello and Ancelotti), one Brazilian (Luxemburgo), one Chilean (Pellegrini), one Hungarian (Hertzka), one Macedonian (Miljanic), a Welshman (Toshack) and a Paraguayan (Fleitas).

22 Spanish managers have also passed through the halls of the Bernabéu as first-team coach. Zidane follows in the footsteps of some greats who made the step from player to manager: García Remón, Camacho, Del Bosque, Valdano, Di Stéfano, Molowny, Amancio, Miguel Muñoz…
