Let's Talk About That Thing That Happened on 'The Walking Dead'
It's what you don't see that matters most.
[Spoilers ahead for Sunday\'s episode "Thank You." The following images contain explicit violence.]
Okay, so I don\'t know it, but years of television watching experience tell me major characters aren\'t killed off this way. Major characters get rightful sendoffs (think Tyrese and Merl), and Glenn (Steven Yeun), perhaps the most righteous, true blue hero on
, didn\'t get a hero\'s death in his final scene on Sunday.
It looks like it\'s the end for him. He\'s at the bottom of hundreds of walkers, but there\'s reason to hope...
If you saw the episode, you know the scene: Glenn and Nicholas are cornered by the herd on top of a dumpster.
His body falls into Glenn and they tumble into the herd.
Walkers start eating Nicholas who\'s laying on top of Glenn.
When the walkers are done with Nicholas they\'ll find Glenn and eat him too right? Screams fill the air as Nicholas\' guts cover him and the camera pulls out, showing the scene from above.
But we never actually see Glenn die. Director Michael Slovis doesn\'t give the hero his moment. So it\'s pretty safe to assume we\'ll see Glenn again, even if it\'s only for one more scene. He\'ll either escape thanks to Nicholas\' blood and guts camouflage and the walkers won\'t notice he\'s alive, or he\'ll be eaten gloriously and the writers will give him a proper death. The former seems more likely, however, and it\'s plausible story-wise since it would give Nicholas\' death meaning. He was a coward in life but might be a hero in death. Killing Glenn now would paint him an idiot for ever saving Nicholas in the first place.
