Dogs never should have to be forced to learn tricks like that. It takes patience and persistance. Hitting isn't a good method.

Sorry, but yes. Wanda sees me. Only when my dog does something horrible like chase a cat or try to kill another animal. I have to or Mo WILL NEVER LEARN. In normal training I would NEVER hit Mo.

I don't belive in training an animal in that way, I belive it is abuse!

If it was a dog THAT TRIED TO KILL YOU,yes,it would be nesasary...But in obediance circumstances,you should treat your pup with LOOOOOOVE! I POKE my dog hard when she is bad,but nothing more than a hard jab.

I would never ever ever ever hit an animal to teach obedience. It shouldn't be done to humans or animals. The human race should be above violence in every way when communicating with our own species or others. So yes, that means I don't think children should be spanked, either.

I hardly do it, actually I should say I never do it. But I do but I dont hit him hard. Its a gently tap and yell NO. But i only do that if he is doing something really bad, like jumping on a stranger.

If you hit an animal, that will only teach it to expect cruelty from you. It will agitate the animal whenever you come near, because it will expect to be hit. The agitation will spike adrenaline in the animal. I find hitting such a backwards practice, and I know what the power of gentle love and affection can do.

I have a pet who, when we got her, hated everybody. She didn't get along with my other pets, and she took shots at anyone who got in her way. She would let no one come near her for the longest time. When she finally did, she had violent mood swings, going from sitting contentedly with her head on your chest to trying to rip your face off in a second. We let her. My mom was so tired of her, and even my dad didn't have anything good to say about her. Today, that same girl will nuzzle and love me to no end. though she still escapes to the forest and gets mats, her fur has gone from a coarse, dull gray to the beautiful sleek, soft storm cloud and butterscotch she really was. she will curl up next to me, swishing her tail over my legs, and she constantly bathes my hands. She even lets me hug her and muss up her fur. I have never once hit her, but always told her tat no matter what, she would always have a place in our family, and treated her with love and affection, though I still have the scars to bear from it. Don't hit your pets, love works just as well. A gentle voice, a gentle hand, a kind heart. That's all you need.

ONCE! only because he bit my little brother and made him bleed. then we locked him up for an hour or 2 but i only hit him coz if i wasn't there he would have really gone for him now he doesn't do it anymore.

(This was with my old dog, i dont have one anymore) We did used to tap her gently when she did something wrong. NOT hard, it wouldnt have hurt at all - just so she knew that what she was doing was wrong.

My dog was weird really. If my dad/mum shouted, she would listen and knew she did wrong. But if me and my sister shouted, my dog would think we're playing.. therefore, we HAD to tap her whenever she did something wrong and my mum and dad werent there, therefore she wouldnt learn.

I never abused my dog to teach him stupid tricks. But I took him from people who were kicking him, beating and not feeding. Sometimes he's aggressive. He used to be beaten by children and sometimes he wants to attack casual child. I try to calm him down, but when he's still aggressive I have to use my hand. I don't want him to be killed because he bit some kid.

I tap my dogs nose when they're bad and say "bad girl" or "no" and they get the message.

many people define the word tap differently so i would say i just give my pets a nudge or if there small pick them up and put them somewhere else and say bad dog or bad cat but i dont shout it or swear at them.

No way. If you ask a trainer (or even watch a TV show, for crying out loud), you'll realize that it's not a good way to teach animals anything.

They're like little taps. Only when he's being REALLY disobedient, it's a last resort. Most of the time, I only yell and nudge them away from whatever he's doing.
