This is not a well planned, elaborate artikel on accepting change and what we can do to make it better. This is a series of thoughts, soalan and sarcastic komen-komen taken mostly from messages between link and link about why we are not peminat-peminat of the Facepop Makeover of July 2010. If anda would like to read an artikel about accepting the change, exploring some of the finer parts of the makeover and moving on, please read link artikel sejak Fanpop's amazing link. Actually, anda should probably read that anyway if you’re at all concerned about the makeover.

A BRIEF HISTORY LESSON.

One of the things Missy and I have always loved about Fanpop is that it was… well, Fanpop. (Most of) the people were great, lots of cool content, the creators were down to earth guys who actually talked to the users and cared about what they had to say (I still Cinta anda guys even though I hate this new layout with a fiery passion!). It had a nice, simple, clean layout. It was original, not like most of the up-and-coming sites that are essentially ripoffs of lebih popular sites like MySpace and Facebook.

We’ve been here since 2007. Some call us “the old people”. We are not normally peminat-peminat of change. But before anda write this off with a “Oh great, it’s just Missy & Dasm bitching about the smallest change again,” please at least skim this article. I may be a bit biased, ‘cause I helped write it, but I believe there are some interesting points below.

LADIES & GENTS, I GIVE YOU... FACEPOP. (Or: THE WALL)

There was a repeat pick in the Fanpop spot the other hari about whether Fanpop atau Facebook was better. Fanpop has won every one of those picks! There is a message in that.

Aside from the fact that walls are thought of as a Facebook thing, this is going to open up a world of pain, as trolls and spammers can now abuse whole spots and individuals much lebih easily now.

I think almost everyone can agree that the dinding box is ridiculously large. Downsize, please.

Why didn't the site test the feature on a small group first, so that issues like expanding komen-komen and the lapor function could already work before releasing it to everyone?

Yes, it has been asked in the past and the slight majority wanted something similar to a wall. One thing that needs to be taken into account is that the people who wanted "comment walls" and such were the same people who wanted personalized backgrounds for their profiles etc. Those were the same kind of users who just wanted it to be all sparkles and hearts like their MySpace accounts.

THE LAYOUT.

Despite hiding half the features & content, the new layout makes the pages look so much lebih cluttered. junk, sarap like popular content and the mind-blowing four kemaskini are all on the right side while everything else is overlapped on the left.

No pautan on the main page of a spot? And artikel-artikel way down the bottom of the page where no one will look? Great.

forum were already ignored, now they're basically useless. Older users will still know their purpose, and hopefully where to find them, but why would a n00b post a forum for discussion when there's a gigantic dinding they can write on, right on the spot's utama page?

This screws over quizzes, too - forget that whole 'I'm here for a purpose, but ooh, I know the answer to that kuiz 'cause it's right there where I can see it!' thing. This was one of Fanpop’s coolest features and now it’s hidden just like video and forums.

...but sejak all means, put the jawapan section right where everyone can see it, it's not abused sejak 98% of the site atau anything.

After trying for ages to get it drilled into the heads of uploaders, even putting a note on the muat naik page itself, about adding imej with link, guess what? Image names don't tunjuk up on a spot's utama page.

THREE SEARCHBARS in a spot?! THREE searchbars for people to ignore?! The placement of the new cari bar commands lebih attention, so I can accept that. But THREE searchbars per spot?! (Black Bar of Doom for site-wide searching, Grey Bar for spot, and now another spot cari in spots that don’t have dinding posts yet.)

What determines popular content? Personally, I've never paid any attention to it and now it's taking up half my page.

It seems that most of the spots I checked that have no kuiz have the 'quizzes' tab shown in default instead of the 'picks'. What determines which tab is shown on individual pages?

Putting artikel-artikel all the way down at the bottom and the "wall" up the bahagian, atas functions to totally devalue article-writing while promoting Twitter like "Oh LOlz i ? FanPOp!!!!!!!1" contributions. It will also probably scare off potential new users over the age of 12. Nobody loves a crazed fangirl.

USER profil CHANGES.

"Club Activity" is a pain in the keldai to navigate through. With the old system, once anda were in a user's activities, it only took a click to get where anda wanted. Why did that get lebih complicated?

The link to pujian on the profil header is gone, now the only way to get to them is to click the prop ikon-ikon atau go through the wall.

...but there is a link to "photos" which leads to -waitforit- the user's gallery. Which can also be accessed sejak clicking "more photos" seterusnya to the user's icon, the ikon itself, atau the tiny thumbnails of other ikon-ikon in the user’s gallery.

In order to get to the picks a person has made, anda now have to go through the picks section in the "my club activity" menu (instead of being able to see it from the 'activity' section).

As of now, I haven't found out how to find the kuiz soalan a user has made through navigation (other than just typing it in the Url bar). The kuiz page allows anda to sort the kuiz the user has taken, but nothing on the ones they made.

Each user now has link on their page for "updates" which only leads to the utama page. The status bar looks like it's going to take anda to the kemaskini for the spots the users is a part of (fanpop.com/fans/username/updates/filtered), but last I checked, anda could only see your own updates. Which would be why it's redirecting to the utama page. Also, why would anda need to see the kemaskini for someone else's spots?

THE BURNING QUESTIONS.

Why has this kind of "makeover" been telah diberi priority over other issues such as the repeated failures of the reporting system, the faq that hasn’t been updated in ages, the insanity of the duplicate spots issue, and the tons of worthwhile suggestions in Dave’s link?

It has come to my attention that my gift for words has been failing me miserably these past few days. What I mean to impart is coming off as bitchiness rather than humerous atau helpful.

For that, I want to apologize. Especially to Harold, who works hard for this site and didn't deserve to feel like he was under attack at all. I'm an idiot. I would offer to smooch and make up, but I'm too old to be getting beat up sejak anyone's wife...

Now, having berkata that, I am going to go over a few things that might be responsible for this mood lately. I simply feel like I am banging my head against the wall...

When I first clicked onto Fanpop, I felt like something was a little different. It wasn't like MySpace atau YouTube (not that I have anything against the people who use them), where I normally get the feeling that people I don't know are looking at my profile. I felt like I could message the users on here and not get a rude atau creepy message back. I could comment, rate, and make picks without anyone (besides the occasional bad-mannered user) commenting on my own opinions. I could add things and feel really great when someone else gave me pujian atau dikomen on how thankful they were for that item. And, I am so glad that Fanpop has stayed this way! I feel so comfortable on here and only know 4 other fanpoppers in real life. I just wanted to compliment all of the wonderful users on how great they are on making this an awesome site to be on! anda are all part of the reason I am now very addicted to Fanpop!

A generic link tajuk is about as helpful as using this picture to guess what color this person's eyes are.
A generic link title is about as helpful as using this picture to guess what color this person's eyes are.
Have anda ever gone to a spot and seen 3 pautan with the exact same title? Have anda ever seen a video of an annual event and wondered if it was from this tahun atau last years show? Gone through a whole video on a spot and wondered why it was there? The problem is generic titling. There is a very simple solution for this that I will explain to anda and help anda put into play in your everyday Fanpopping.
Have I read this artikel before??? I just can't tell with this generic title!

When I first started on Fanpop I didn't exactly know what Fanpop really was, I just was on Fanpop so I could see video of my favourite tv shows.
But then I noticed that anda could do other things like answering picks and I started to do that.
Some picks made me laugh really hard, other made me think about things that I've never really thought about.
I did that for a while and it was (and still is) really fun to do and then I began to notice that when I couldn't sleep, atau just was bored, I was making picks in my head.

And then I had this brilliant idea (yes, I know, I'm a genius:D) that I could...

This is a quick guide to using the new IM and Chat beta launch.

Rooms Tab:
The global-chat is open to all registered fans.

There is another room that is reserved for users of a certain level, and you'll also see that in the Rooms tab. In the past, we've had a few Rawak people come in and hit on the people in the chat rooms, so the reserved room should be relatively free of such riff-raff.

Contact Tab:
Setting custom status messages: click on the pencil, and type away!

Turning off chat: Click on the bubble seterusnya to "I am online" and click on the red "Log out" option on the menu.

Contacts are your mutual...
