Gary should be with Dawn, as he is shown to be much nicer to her. Plus, I can see Gary telling Dawn all about how he used to be cocky and arrogant before he realized he needed to change himself (after he lost to Melissa on the Rock field at the Indigo Plateau). So as a result, Gary chose to become a Pokémon Professor like his grandfather (while also deciding to leave the path of being a Pokémon Trainer up to Ash).. :)
