No, Kopa never existed in the movie universe. It is officially evident in the commentary track by the first film's makers as they call the cub "Fluffy" and hadn't given and still didn't give it a gender + the fact the sequel makes no references to anyone but the girl Kiara.

And no, I don't wish it was a boy. A daughter was a better choice because:

1. We already saw a story about a prince. Princess gave a nice change in point of view and story aspects.
2. The princess they created certainly gave new blood to the line of royal children in the films and to the story.
3. I find it fascinating that the royal bloodline of Pride Lands no more stuck with only Mufasa’s blood but was mixed with a new male’s from outside the pride. It might make the future generations more and more interesting. Of course Nala wasn't Mufasa's child, so there already was someone else's blood in Kiara... But still. I mean through the king.

I enjoyed seeing a girl in the second movie, but I prefer boys when it comes to Disney children and I'm not a big fan of Kiara anyway I found her kind of annoying "/ . ^But, you have gave some good points about why they should have done a female.

I'm not fan of Kiara either and I too do find her annoying, but exactly because of those annoying characteristics, she's a good character fot the entity of the story. As in, refreshing while still in some ways familiar.

I think it's more interesting, for many of the reasons already mentioned here.

Funny enough, after the first movie I remember having a lot of conversations with my school friends about "Simba and Nala's son". At the end of the original movie, we don't know anything about their child in terms of personality and what their life will end up being like. It was a fun topic for us to talk about, and people were coming up with all sorts of storyline ideas for this character.

But one thing they all seemed to agree on was that it would be a boy, and sometimes I thought to myself, "wouldn't it be funny if it turned out to be a girl?" For that reason, I always grin at Timon and Pumbaa's reaction at the beginning of Simba's Pride. :D

I've said this before on other sites: I wouldn't be surprised if that moment was put there for humour puropses of course but also to poke friendly fun at all the fans who thought Fluffy was a boy. ;D

I do like the father and daughter realationship, but I would like to see how Simba would handle a boy.
