“Can I just be quarter back?” She bursts out.
“Uhh.. anda sure anda think anda can do that?” I ask, not wanting her to get completely pummeled.
“I’m sure.”
“But I don’t want anda I get hurt.”
I say.
“I won’t.” She smiles.

“Positive.” She grins as she takes the football from my hand.
“Ok, out of the two person huddle.” Steve says, breaking us apart. “Soda, anda QB?”
“Nah, Y/N is.”
Steve gives me the you-aren’t-serious-right look, but Y/N is grinning like a mad woman.
“Ok, get in the huddle.” She says. Steve and I close in around her. “We’re running the I-42, but the fake.” She whispers.
Steve and I share a look. I didn’t know she retained that much information from us. I didn’t even remember telling her that.
“Ready? Break!” She calls.
We got into formation, us against Darry, Two-Bit and Ponyboy.
All of a sudden, I have this fear of Y/N getting pummeled. I stand out of my stance. “Timeo-“
“Ready, set… Hut hut hike!” She says, taking the snap.
Steve runs toward her for the handoff, and she jukes, going for the fake. I run, with Two-Bit close behind me, out for the pass.
But she sees the gap, and runs forward, between Darry and Ponyboy.
They start to sprint after her, but they can’t catch up with her.
She jogs into the endzone, grinning.
“You ran that route perfectly!” Steve yells, running to meet her in the endzone.
I jog up to them. “Babe, anda didn’t tell me that anda knew all this.”
She hands me the football. “I played when I was little.” She smiled. “First string quarterback.”
“She’s better than you, stud.” Steve gives me a punch to the stomach.
“I know.” I smile.

“What the hell, man!” Soda yelled, and slapped Steve’s arm.
“Owww.” Steve says, looking down to examine his arm.
“Haha yes, I win!” Soda laughs.
“Not fair man!” Steve yells.
They start going after each other.
Oh god.
“Where the hell is she?!?” I storm into the emergency room.
“Excuse me sir,” one of the nurses says, holding me back a little. “Who are anda looking for?”
“(Y/N). (Y/N) (Y/L/N). She’s my girlfriend. I got a call. She was in some accident.” I saw, kind of throwing my hands all around.
“I’ll check for you. One minit please. Have a seat” The nurse said. But I saw it in her eyes. Something was wrong. I sat down, head in my hands.
The nurse walks back to talk to a doctor. They keep glancing over at me. Damnit. I wish they’d just tell me what was going on. The nurse nods her head, and the doctor starts walking toward me.
He stands in front of me. “You’re here for Ms. (Y/L/N)?”
“Yes sir.” I manage to say.
I see the sorriness in his eyes, and hear the sadness in his pause.
“I’m afraid she’s not going to make it.”
That was all I needed to hear before standing up.
