Ch.1 Flashbacks Of An Assortment
"Slam!" The sound rang clear throughout my room as i looked at the now tattered book sitting below my dinding the pages lying flat. I rolled my eyes at the stupid thing.
I stalked over to my katil and huffed as i dived onto the quilt and soft mattress. Once again I had gotten in trouble, once again it was for something stupid.
Maybe I should introduce my self before i tell anda my life long battle. Im Bethany Vivian Masen, Daughter of Edward Senior Masen and Elizabeth Masen and sister of Edward Masen. Im currently 15 and live in chicago, the tahun is 1917.
Ok now back to my problem at hand. See i had just once again got caught Berlakon the least bit tomboyish but hei can anda blame me my best friend is my brother so im not going to be exactly prim and proper.
Theres another thing, My best friend is Edward. Most girls wouldnt call their brother their best friend but I do. anda see he just turned 17 days lalu so hes 2 years older then me so hes always been the protecter.
I remeber when we were really little and all the guys would flirt with me and stuff Edward would try knocking them out, And whenever i was scared we would always sit in the den together and read atau set up a fort and pretend to fight away vampires, werewolfs, atau evil pixies.
The memories i recall lebih are lebih baru-baru ini such as when i got asked to the formal ball sejak a sweet young man and was about to say yes when Edward pulled me away claiming I could do better then the low life.
"humph" I sighed still frustered with myself and sat up on my bed. I looked at the mirror on the dinding and saw the same thing i saw everyday. Pale skin, Green Eyes, and long flowing brunette hair.
The only reason i liked that one memory was because i had actually had someone ask me out which rarely happened since i wasnt "pretty."
Well atau the fact i was rich and guys were intimidated sejak that atau whatever. My dad owns a booming buisness that tributes to the Chicago times. Which only made my life a little harder.
"Beth?" I heard a soft voice call, one i knew very well from all the time we spend together.
"Yes Edward?" I asked lowly about to burst into tears. I tried to be strong in front of everyone else but Edward had a sense of trust so i knew if i cried he would understand.
I buried my head back in one of my pilllows and heard the knobs twist in the old door then cautious footsteps nearing my bed. I felt an shift in the mattress and felt the presense of someone sitting seterusnya to me.
Gently i looked up and was met sejak two green eyes looking into mine. Edward was tall and lean with pale and sharp features but we looked greatly alike probably from our mother.
"Bethy" He berkata gently wiping the tears from my eyes as i sat up and sat seterusnya to him. He gently put his arm around my shoulder and hugged me close as i gried into his shoulder like a baby.
"You know it doesnt matter if your proper atau not to everyone in the world, it matters if your yourself and let me tell anda tom was surprised anda could kick butt in baseball!" Edward berkata laughing lightly as his eyes brightened and he tried to cheer me up.
"Hahahah is that so?" I questioned playing along with my best friend/brother and smiling the crooked grin of ours.
"Hmm yes but really dont listen to mom" he replied looking down at me sincerly. I looked up and nodded completly understanding what he meant.
My mom was basically planning our lives out for us and our dad was playing along with it. I wanted to play the Piano and explore the world while edward wanted to sertai the war, apparently we werent allowed to do either.
"I got an idea!" Edward exclaimed jumping up really fast shaking me out of my thoughts and bringing me to the present. He looked so excited that it scared me, them he craddled me in his arms and put me in the near sejak rocker as he tore my sheets from my bed.
"What the heck are anda doing" I berkata in shock as he grabbed the quilt and blanket from the katil and gethered them in his arms. I shifted my body in the rocker to get a lebih stern looking position.
"Well we are going to need this come on little sister we are going to the den" he replied smirking at the look on my face. We hadnt camped in the den since we were 7 but i guess i could roll with kiddish Edward.
"Um ok" But before that was out of my mouth he grabbedmy hand and pulled me from the rocker. We were out in the hall in 2 sec. flat and were cautiously making our way sejak our parents closed door.
It was pretty late at night and thanks to that little blow up about 20 min back the rents had already turned in so we had to stay very quiet.
We walked past the servants quarters careful not to make any noise. The hall was dark so only Edwards hand guided me.
Soon the den was in view and we reached the cracked door. I quietly opened it and took in the relaxed look of the room.
There were two leather couches and a small breakfast meja, jadual set in the left corner was a baby grand Piano that edward and i frequently used. The old carpet was rough yeat inviting.
Edward walked to the sofa, kerusi panjang setting his "Supplies" down and walked to the meja, jadual grabbing 2 chairs made of wood and set them down facing each other. Soon enough i grabbed the sheets and we were putting them on the bahagian, atas of the chairs and couches. Then our tent was ready.
"Ladys first" Edward whispered pulling the sheet up waiting for me to crawl inside. Hmph always the gentlemen... I thought to myself as i grabbed my ruffled skirts and held them up as i climbed under, edward following.
"So what brought this on?" I questined looking at him weird. We had always been close so i knew when he was troubled and just now in the light of the candle(which he got from somewhere??) i noticed he looked distraught.
"Listen I got a paper..." He started then stopped looking at me. In his eyes i saw fear yet hope and a little bit of....betrayal???
"So?" I replied wondering why he was Berlakon weird. Wow he got a paper he is soo great! anda know they come from trees right???*Sarcasm*
"For the War" Thats when my stomach dropped and i realized what he was saying. He would be joining the war soon now since he was old enough(17) so that would mean he would probably sertai the seterusnya draft, in 1918.
"What?" I asked in a small whisper that i always used when on the verge of tears. He looked down almost ashamed.
"Next tahun i plan on disobeying and joining the war against our parents wishes agaisnt all of it, im tiried of being here i want to help, but i dont know how anda will do it all alone" Edward finsihed the last part quietly and his eyes went down cast.
"What do anda mean?" I asked once again confused, and a little angry.
"Its nothing just promise me when i do go, please obey our parents please go out and make some friends, please stay away from guys, please help the servants and sing to the woodland creatures, just please dont let this change your life!" he berkata in one breath looking at me with a stern yet gentle brotherly look in his eyes. I had to be strong for my brother, he was the one to teach me how to be after all.
But yet i was numb and sad plus terrified. MY whole life Edward had been there for me always protecting me like an older brother always should but now i was going to be abandoned as 1918 was approaching.
I gently nodded my head and replied with a small "ok"
Edward stuck out his hand as if to shake on the deal. I grabbed it and held it to my tiny palm. His hand was way bigger then mine, which made me feel vulnerable and tiny.
Finally the tears came and ii let go of his hand as he grabbed into a tight hug while we cried together all night long.
