First of all, I like this live action model image.
I ALWAYS thought it was a lip kiss, but after seeing the live action models, I looked at the screen caps again. I guess it's possible that it was a lip kiss, but it doesn't appear that way to me.

The way he tilts his head in the movie shows that it's a lip kiss though. His chin is in front of hers. It would be behind hers if it was a cheek kiss. It might be different for the live action models but in the move he does actually kiss her on the lips.
