Ok, so in Avatar, does Norm die?

He gets shot in the shoulder a bit so his Avatar is dead. But then anda see him in the link chamber and he faints. Later on though the link chamber window is broken and because of that Jake almost dies due to the air but then he is saved as we know. Surely Norm, who has fainted just further down the kabin then dies while Jake is having his "I see you" moment due to the air which almost killed Jake as he wasn't wearing a gas mask.
