What do anda do to get attached to your characters?

I've been having trouble with this.

I can manage to get attached to one atau two sejak just sitting back and thinking about them, but I don't feel as if one atau two is enough.

What steps do anda guys take toward getting attached to your characters, to the point where anda actually care about what happens to them, and how your reader perceives them?

For starters, I sit down and write a detailed outline of every individual character's life story. Even if I know I'm never going to use the information, it helps to know all of my characters' entire stories - from the time they were born to the present - so that I can make sense of all the decisions they make and how they treat others. I try to get into their heads and get a feel for their thought processes and how their experiences in life affect them. Sometimes I'll even write scenes I know I'm never going to use just so I can really get a feel for who I'm Penulisan about. The lebih time I spend Penulisan about a character, the lebih real they become to me and the lebih I enjoy Penulisan about them.

Sometimes, I'll also try listening to songs that I think remind me of my character's life and try to picture him/her in my head. I'll imagine meeting this character myself and playing out what kind of conversation we would have. It sounds crazy, I guess, but I helps me feel lebih connected to the character :D

Finally, try to see your characters as real people and not just some words on a page. Envision them. Try sketching them (even if you're really awful at drawing like I am), so anda can really see who you're Penulisan about. Do they have freckles? Scars? Is one eye a little smaller than the other? What kind of style do they have? Do they plan every outfit atau do they just throw something on?

Also, make a senarai of their personal quirks - do they bite their fingernails atau play with their hair when they're nervous? Do they have a loud laugh atau a soft one? Do they tunjuk all their teeth when they smile atau do they tend to stick to the close-lipped crooked kind of smile? How do they deal with being afraid? Do they run away atau plant their feet and determine to stand strong? Do they cry when they're sad atau hold everything in? Do they shout when they're angry atau shut down and go cold?

Don't be afraid to give them highs and lows, flaws and strengths, as well as failures and shining moments. The lebih detailed anda make your characters' personalities and physical traits, the easier it is to become attached to them and see them as real people. If anda haven't both loved and hated your characters at some point, they aren't real enough :D

I'm not sure if these things will work for everyone, but they've always seemed to aid me, so I really hope they can help you, too :)

Well, I'm on the sequel of my story so I've been Penulisan my characters for a while. When anda write for a long time with the same characters, and if anda unravel their stories whether it be in the text atau just in your head, anda realize things about them that even anda hadn't planned on (at least, that's what happens to me.) It takes time to get attatched to your characters, but they'll eventually grown on you. Take my character Rosa van Cleaven, for example. I didn't care for her at first. Then I made up a story plot for her to explain why she was, and I felt sorry for her. Then I elaborated on her even more. Now she has a full, blown-out story, and I'm extremely attatched to her.

I usually create them and their lives step sejak step and then try to get the plot of the story involved with their lives, then I would think about them and then there they have become a part of me, I am attached.

To get truly attached to your characters, anda have to be able to imagine life as that particular character. In other words, you'll have to be able to be in that character's shoes. anda will have to be able to know your characters so well that anda can dream about them every night without having to force yourself to do so. anda will have to be able to know all your characters' habits, hobbies, talents, personalities, hair color, eye color, and so on. I myself just write a life story based on the perspective of all my characters, and basically, things just come shooting at me, and I just jot them quickly down, so that they won't escape my mind. Then, I write the perspective of every character and say, for example, "Johnny was really upset and he cried all night, since everyone was being rude to him. He was a real troublemaker, but usually shy too"
